Australia donates equipment to the Vientiane Times to improve the newspaper’s online content. Deputy Australian Ambassador  Ms Benita Sommerville handed over equipment yesterday to Editor-in-Chief Mrs Phonesavanh Thikeo to support the newspaper’s digital transformation, funded by the Laos-Australia Friendship Association. Australia has been a key supporter of the Vientiane Times since its establishment in 1994, providing volunteers, essential equipment, and specialised capacity building to help journalists strengthen their professionalism and adapt to evolving media trends. The new equipment will help the Vientiane Times produce high-quality video content, meeting the growing needs of Lao audiences in an era of rapid digital transformation. This support highlights Australia’s commitment to working with the Lao media and fostering the enduring relationship between Laos and Australia, now in its 74th year.
