Present receives new ambassadors, farewells Lao diplomats appointed overseas

Ambassadors representing Canada, Germany, France, Timor-Leste, Belgium and Algeria on Friday presented their credentials to President Thongloun Sisoulith following their appointment as diplomatic representatives to Laos, in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace.
President Thongloun congratulated the ambassadors on their appointment and expressed confidence that their years of experience in the diplomnatic arena would enable them to foster friendly relations and strong cooperation between their respective governments and Laos.
He encouraged reciprocal visits between government leaders and closer people-to-people links to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, tourism and other fields.
The President also urged the ambassadors to ensure the fulfilment of Memorandums of Understanding signed between their respective governments and the Lao leadership.
In addition, he advised the new ambassadors to visit provinces across Laos to familiarise themselves with their circumstances and development progress, saying this would help to attract more foreign investment.
The incoming ambassadors expressed their gratitude for the kind words and warm welcome extended by the President.
They promised to do their best to strengthen the friendly relations and cooperation between their governments and Laos, with the aim of delivering tangible results for their countries and peoples.
On the same occasion, President Thongloun presented credentials to Lao ambassadors appointed to new posts in foreign countries.
He advised them to work to the best of their ability to strengthen the ties between their host governments and Laos towards fruitful outcomes.
He spoke of the need to seek support from international agencies, encourage businesses to invest in Laos, and advertise Laos as a tourist destination.
Closer ties in these fields would benefit Lao people of all ethnic groups, strengthen Laos’ social and economic development, help alleviate poverty, and ensure that Laos would be able to successfully graduate from Least Developed Country status, the President said.
