The Indian Embassy to Laos hosted an event to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, on October 24, led by the Ambassador of India to Laos, Yogeshwar Sangwan, and Mrs Indu Chahar. The event was attended by over 120 guests from the overseas, Lao and Indian communities. The festival commemorates the arrival of Lord Rama, along with the Goddess Sita and God Lakshmana, in the Indian city of Ayodhya after defeating the demon Ravana. Referring to another Diwali celebration by the Indian community in Vientiane on October 18, Ambassador Sangwan underscored the growing popularity of the festival in Laos. Highlights of the evening included the welcome of guests in the traditional Indian way with a Tilak/Tikka on the forehead, the Aarti (prayer) of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, Lao and Indian Bollywood dances by students at Sri Sathya Sai School, rangoli flowers, a photo booth with Diwali props, fireworks, and the serving of Indian delicacies. |
