Phongsupthavy Group donates US$1 million to Vietnam’s Covid response

The Phongsubthavy Group has donated US$500,000 and medical equipment worth US$500,000 to Vietnam’s Covid-19 prevention and control programme, according to Lao National Radio.
President of the Phongsubthavy Group, Mr Phongsavath Senaphuan, visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Vientiane on Thursday and donated US$500,000 in cash and medical equipment worth US$500,000 as a contribution to Covid-19 control and prevention in Vietnam.

On delivering the donation, Mr Phongsavath said he had been learning about Lao-Vietnamese friendship since he was a child and regularly followed developments in Vietnam. He knew that Vietnam was experiencing a fresh outbreak of Covid-19 so after talks with the group’s management it was agreed to provide a   cash donation and medical equipment.
The supplies include face masks, sanitiser, patient beds and other equipment.
Mr Phongsavath said the donation was made because of the sincere kindness of all employees of the Phongsabthavy Group, who wished to join forces with the Party, State and people of Vietnam in the fight against Covid-19.
The Phongsubthavy Group hopes that Vietnam will be able to bring the virus outbreak under control so that everyone in the country can soon resume a normal life.
The Ambassador of Vietnam to Laos, Mr Nguyen Ba Hung, thanked the staff of the Phongsubthavy Group for their generous contribution.
He said that although the people of Laos are themselves suffering from the effects of the Covid-19 outbreak, in recent days several businesses and organisations had lent support to the fight against Covid-19 in Vietnam.  This was a clear indication of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. Mr Nguyen Ba Hung expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr Phongsavath and all employees of the Phongsubthavy Group and said Vietnam would repay the money and reimburse Laos for the medical equipment as soon as possible.
