Covid taskforce instructs schools to roll out virus control measures

The education ministry’s Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control has advised school administrators, teachers and students to continue to take steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19, despite the drop in case numbers.
Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Mrs Khanthaly Siriphongphanh advised everyone in schools to continue to follow the basic virus control measures recommended by health officials and the ministry’s Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.
Meanwhile, at the start of the new academic year, the ministry has authorised all schools and places of learning at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels to deliver classes face-to-face.
However, staff at all educational institutions must be on guard against a resurgence of Covid-19. Any member of staff or student who develops Covid must stay out of school, seek medical advice, and study or work at home online.
If several cases of Covid are confirmed, the school’s management board and the Covid taskforce will carry out a risk assessment and decide whether classes should continue or be suspended.
The ministry’s Covid taskforce has advised education and sports administrators to continue to encourage teachers and students to get fully vaccinated against Covid-19, to protect themselves and to boost immunity levels in the population as a whole.
Students in the 6-11 and 12+ age groups can get vaccinations at health facilities and in villages and schools.
All schools must take measures to prevent Covid-19, such as temperature checks, social distancing, wearing of face masks in the classroom, and regular washing of hands with soap or sanitiser.
The national Covid taskforce has also advised indoor and outdoor sports centre in Vientiane and the provinces to continue to strictly implement Covid prevention measures.
Staff and customers must be fully vaccinated against Covid, have their temperature checked, maintain a distance of at least one metre, wear a face mask, and wash their hands with soap or sanitiser.
The Covid taskforce has advised teachers and students to be on the alert for possible Covid cases and to take note of any updates issued by the Ministry of Health.
