A water supply upgrade in Borikhamxay now complete

Borikhamxay province has disbursed 38.65 billion kip on the improvement and construction of water supply and sanitation systems in Pakxan and Pakkading districts.
The funding was provided in the form of a loan from the Asian Development Bank for the development of the water supply system under a water supply and sanitation project implemented by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
The government provided 70 percent of the funds to the Provincial Water Enterprise, amounting to 27.06 billion kip. The remaining 30 percent with a value of 11.59 billion kip was loaned with an annual interest rate of 6.4 percent and a repayment period of 25 years.
The project was officially handed over in a ceremony attended by Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport Mrs Vilaykham Phosalath and the Deputy Governor of Borikhamxay province, Mr Bounseng Pathammavong.
The project was carried out under a contract with DM Group Limited and involved the construction of a water supply plant in Odom village, Pakxan district, the laying of pipelines, distribution pipes, water pump system, and control cabinet for the plant’s electrical system, as well as the disinfection of water and other facilities.
In addition, the project provided funds for the development of the village environment in both districts. Improvements were carried out in six villages with a total value of nearly 1 billion kip, of which local residents contributed 10 percent, equal to 81 million kip.
The work included building alleys in the villages and providing building materials for village offices.
All of the work in both districts is now complete. The new water supply systems have been tested and are fully operational.
