Bokeo police seize 4 mn amphetamine pills

Police in Bokeo province seized almost four million amphetamine tablets from a pick-up truck last week, but were unable to trace the traffickers.
The discovery was made after police received a report from a local resident that drugs were being transported by a boat on the Mekong River from a neighbouring country to Tonpheung district.
The drugs were transferred from the boat to a pick-up truck in Tonpheung district.
When police approached the vehicle, two suspects in it ran off, according to the Public Security News.

A search of the vehicle turned up almost four million amphetamine pills.
Bokeo province’s Police Headquarters is investigating the possible source of the drugs and those involved in transporting them.

In January, Bokeo police broke up a drug ring in Huayxai district when they arrested four suspects in possession of more than four tonnes of amphetamine.
During the raid, police impounded a car, five phones, 36,480,000 amphetamine tablets, 590 kg of crystal meth or ice, and several packages of heroin.
Law enforcement officials handled almost 500 drug-related cases in February and March, in which more than 700 people were arrested and large quantities of drugs were impounded.
These figures were reported at the government’s recent monthly meeting.
Minister and Head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr Alounxay Sounnalath, said police handled 474 drug-related cases in total, arresting 728 people.
Drug busts saw 6,761,089 amphetamine tablets seized, along with 26.88 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 17.68 kg of heroin, and other narcotics. Police also impounded 15 cars and 84 motorcycles belonging to drug traffickers.
