Govt bodies urged to take action on two national agendas

Government agencies have been instructed to intensify efforts to fulfil the two national agendas on tackling economic and financial issues and drug trafficking.
The government’s monthly meeting held on October 26-27 resolved action to revitalise the country’s economy and address social issues.
Chaired by Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh and attended by cabinet members, the meeting instructed the entities responsible to boost national income and regulate currency exchange rates.

The sectors concerned were advised to ensure a sufficient supply of foreign currencies, especially Thai baht and US dollars, for the purchase of essential commodities including fuel.
The government also stressed the need to promptly repay the debts owed by Laos to foreign countries and domestic creditors.
The government also recognised the severe impact of flooding in several provinces and called for all sectors to help with rehabilitation efforts and restore living conditions to normal.
The cabinet meeting endorsed six important documents which will serve as key guidelines for government sectors in meeting targets in the near future.
The first document concerns the government’s main achievements in October and the plans to be fulfilled in November.
The second one relates to the prime minister’s visit to Singapore and the Cuban prime minister’s visit to Laos, and outlines the ways in which the sectors concerned need to respond to the agreements made during these visits.
Next, the meeting adopted government reports to be presented at the upcoming National Assembly session.
The fourth document concerned a decree on foreign scholarships, aiming to give more Lao nationals the chance of a higher education.
The fifth one related to the use of wavelengths in radio communications and the last one concerned the national strategy on ethnic affairs development from 2021-2030 and the vision to 2035.
