A representative of Yongji Hospital in South Korea, Dr Kang Yu Min, said the hospital will continue cooperation to help improve the field of medical analysis at the University of Health Sciences. “We will continue to provide funding to support and strengthen personnel in the Medical Technical Faculty in Laos with the assistance of specialists at Yongji Hospital, so that the exchange will bear more fruit.”
“This will follow on from previous cooperation to help develop the body of knowledge in medical analysis at the Faculty of Medical Technology in Laos,” she said.
Funding will be provided to train university staff in medical analysis through visits to South Korea with support from the Dr Lee Jong-wook fellowship programme.
Vice President of the University of Health Sciences, Dr Naly Khaminsu, asked professors at Yongji Hospital to continue to help train the university’s lecturers in medical technology and provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure they were able to teach effectively.
Welcoming the visit by Dr Kang Yu Min, Dr Naly expressed his deep appreciation for the assistance provided to the Faculty of Medical Technology, which had helped to raise teaching standards.
He said he recognised the need to improve the skills of teaching staff in the field of medical technology.
In response, professors from Yongji Hospital said they were happy to continue their cooperation with the Faculty.
The Dr Lee Jong-wook fellowship programme was launched in 2007 to honour the spirit of the late Dr Lee Jong-wook, the 6th Director-General of the World Health Organisation, who stressed the importance of training people in developing countries for sustainable development.
As of 2021, a total of 1,147 trainees from 30 countries had been funded by the programme.
In Laos, the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare is continuing to provide scholarships for health officials under the Dr Lee Jong-wook fellowship programme. Those who are accepted for studies under this programme have all expenses, including international airfares, accommodation, living costs and tuition fees, paid by the Republic of Korea.
