President to attend international conference “Future of Asia” in Tokyo

President Thongloun Sisoulith will depart Vientiane on May 24 to attend the 28th International Conference “Future of Asia” in Tokyo, Japan.
Scheduled to take place on May 25-26, the international gathering addresses the theme “Leveraging Asia’s power to confront global challenges”.
Other dignitaries also scheduled to attend this year’s conference include Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Tran Luu Quang, former Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir bin Mohamad, and former Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Zhu Min, according to the website for this year’s conference.
Organised by Nikkei Inc every year since 1995, the annual conference brings together political, economic and academic leaders from the Asia-Pacific region to offer their views on regional issues and the role of Asia in the world. Asia, which accounts for 60 percent of the world’s population and 40 percent of the world’s economy, has the potential to lead the world in tackling global challenges such as climate change, sustainability, inflation, erosion of democratic values, poverty, economic disparity and so on, the organiser said.
The region has abundant natural resources, a young and diverse population, technology, and innovative ideas.
“In the 28th FUTURE OF ASIA, government leaders, corporate executives, and academics will come together to discuss how the region can unlock and mobilise its potential to solve common issues in a multipolar world,” it said.
