Phu Bia Mining hosts event to celebrate school road safety day in Xaysomboun

Children in Xaysomboun province have learnt a lot more about road safety, thanks to an event hosted by Phu Bia Mining (PBM) to promote School Road Safety Awareness Day recently at Nam Mo Secondary School.
The school is located in Xaysomboun province close to the Company’s Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, and is where children from Ban Nam Mo and Nam Gnone attend classes.

Students participate in a mock scenario exercise when crossing a road during an event at Ban Nam Mo Secondary School.

The event aimed to teach children about the importance of being alert when using roads as pedestrians, and when travelling on bicycles and motorbikes.
The one-day event was attended by nearly 100 students in years 1 to 7, and teachers.
Representatives from the Xaysomboun provincial Education and Sports, Public Works and Transport departments, traffic police, and village authorities also attended.
The training session began with a presentation by the PBM Logistics team on road safety, focusing on key topics including “Sharing roads with other vehicles” and “Identifying hazards and how they may affect you”.
At the end of the presentation, the team gave a quiz with small prizes for correct answers.
In the afternoon, students participated in a mock scenario by observing road rules and identifying driver blind spots and hazards associated with large vehicles while walking and crossing a road, and riding a bicycle.

PanAust Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Daling Zheng, spoke about PanAust’s safety excellence in its logistics operations.
“Our logistics operations involve sharing public roads with other users and having a robust safety programme that prepares our drivers to operate in difficult road conditions, and improves individual driver safety behaviour.
“In 2022, we spread our road safety practices and Zero Harm safety message to host communities in Quang Binh province in Vietnam, and Thaphabath district in Borikhamxay province. The most recent road safety programme conducted at Ban Na Mo Secondary School will encourage students to be more vigilant when travelling to and from school and outside school hours,” Mr Zheng said.
Phu Bia Mining Chairman, Mr Chanpheng Bounnaphol, added “Phu Bia Mining’s school road safety days are part of our regular engagement with our host communities in spreading the Company’s safety message.  In the future, we plan to run additional road safety days for other host communities that live along our logistics haulage route.”
