Donations support govt efforts to contain Covid outbreak
Some US$9.6 million and more than 1.7 billion kip have been given by companies and other entities to the government in support of the response to Covid-19, especially the procurement of vaccines.
Phongsapthavy Road, Housing and Irrigation Sole Ltd has given US$2 million for the purchase of 80,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine for the security forces. Chaleun

Xekong Power Limited has donated the same amount for the procurement of the same quantity of vaccines for use by teachers across the country.
Investment and Hydro Power Plant Consultant Sole Limited has also donated US$2 million for the purchase of 80,000 doses of vaccine.
In addition, AIF Company is funding the purchase of 60,000 doses of vaccine valued at US$1.5 million.
PT Sole Ltd. has provided US$1.5 million and the Phonesak Group has donated US$500,000 for the purchase of vaccine.
Electricity Du Laos has provided 50,000 boxes of face masks valued at 1.3 billion kip, and Lane Xang Minerals Limited has donated US$100,000 to the government.
The Association of Women Entrepreneurs has offered cash and medical equipment valued at 190 million kip, and V.I.P. Investment Development Sole Ltd. has donated 100 million kip.
Chaleunsap Yingchaleun has donated 100 million kip, and the Lao-Chinese Friendship Association has donated 66 million kip to help combat the spread of Covid-19.
Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh and Deputy Prime Minister Prof. Dr Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, who heads the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, represented the government in receiving the donations.
“This assistance from companies and other organisations is greatly appreciated. The Lao government and people offer sincere thanks, as it reflects shared concern at a time when the country is suffering from the pandemic and helps us to overcome difficulties together,” a press release from the Public Relations Department of the Prime Minister’s Office stated.
Speaking after receiving the donations, Prime Minister Phankham promised to use the money for the intended purpose and to maximise the benefits gained.
He called on all members of the public to actively comply with the measures laid down by the government to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19 and to assist the government in monitoring practices aimed at suppressing the spread of the virus.
