Hongsa Power provides 1 million baht to support Covid response

Hongsa Power Co., Ltd. is providing grant aid of 1 million Thai baht through a fundraising programme to help the government combat the Covid-19 outbreak.
Recognising the devastating impact of the Covid pandemic on the economy and society at large, Hongsa Power Co., Ltd. has made a contribution to society by donating 1,000,000 baht to support the government’s efforts to curb the spread of the virus.
The funds will be disbursed by the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, under the Ministry of Health, the company stated.
Since last year, Hongsa Power has been making financial contributions to the government to supplement the budget to prevent the spread of Covid at both the local and central levels, through nine projects worth over 1.2 billion kip, equal to 3,600,000 baht. This support is in addition to the main mission of Hongsa Power in the field of electricity generation to create energy security for Laos and Thailand.
Last year, Hongsa Power Co., Ltd. also donated personal protective equipment worth one million baht to district hospitals in Xayaboury province to bolster efforts to prevent the spread of Covid.
The items included a ventilator and personal protective kits for use by hospital staff in Hongsa, Khop, Xienghon and Ngeun districts. Many government and private sector bodies in Laos have provided medical equipment to support the fight against Covid.
Neighbouring countries and others have also given large quantities of medical supplies and cash to the government in further support of virus control efforts.
The National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on Sunday announced 1,274 new cases of Covid, while 11 more people died.
The new infections were identified among 4,638 samples tested over the previous 24 hours, with all being reportedly transmitted within Laos.
The latest figures bring the total number of Covid cases to 89,320, including 247 people who have died.
A total of 674 people were discharged from hospitals and treatment centres on Saturday, while 12,231 people are currently under observation or being treated.
