Laos to repatriate seven Thai nationals
The Champassak Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control said this evening that seven Thai nationals who had entered Laos illegally had not been given Covid-19 vaccinations by the Lao government, contrary to reports in Thai media this morning.
The taskforce said there had been reports on social media and some mainstream Thai media outlets that seven people living in Ubon Ratchathani province, Thailand, went into the woods on the Lao-Thai border to search for food but lost their way and unlawfully crossed the border into Champassak province on August 1, 2021.
The Champassak taskforce said this was true.
The taskforce said all seven were placed in quarantine as required by Lao rules on the prevention and control of Covid-19 and would be processed under Lao law before being returned to the Thai government in line with the relevant treaty between the two countries.
The Champassak taskforce stressed that some of the information on social media and in some Thai media outlets about the group being vaccinated was not true. --Source by Lao National Television
