Multiple billions donated for Covid-19 response

State and private sectors have donated more than 32.8 billion kip in cash and in kind recently to helped the government response to the recent Covid-19 outbreak.
On Friday, the Prime Minister’s Office received almost 6 billion kip, including 33 million kip donated by the Ministry of Technology and Communication, which also made available the LaoKYC application tracking system for use on mobile phones.
In addition, Lao Telecommunications Public Company (Lao Telecom) donated 2.5 billion kip and communication equipment worth 783 million kip.

On Thursday, three donors provided US$2.5 million and 200 million kip worth of cash and supplies to Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, Prof. Dr Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune.
The US$2.5 million was given by Dok Ngiew Kham Group, the PS Construction & Travel Sole Co., Ltd. provided 40 packages of face masks and 20 packages of hand sanitiser and cash worth 100 million kip, while the Honda New Chip Xeng Co., Ltd. donated 100 million kip.
Prof. Dr Kikeo thanked the donors for their support for the country’s ongoing battle against Covid-19. 
“These donations are a show of unity and are a great encouragement to the Party, State and Lao people, especially the doctors and officials who are working to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The money will be put to good use and used for the intended purpose,” he added.
Previously, many sectors have provided assistance in cash and other donations to the government for the pandemic response as Laos is currently battling a second wave of outbreakes.
The deputy prime minister called on people from all walks of life to strengthen their solidarity with the government and take the initiative in rolling out and complying with these measures.
Compliance with the government guidelines requires responsibility on the part of individuals, families and communities at all levels to bring the outbreak back under control and reduce the number of people contracting the virus with the ultimate goal of no deaths in Laos, he said.
