New road creates fast link to Bokeo international airport

Bokeo provincial authorities are overseeing the construction of an eight-lane road between the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone and Bokeo International Airport.
The road, which has been named Tien Long Road, is now being paved with asphalt, according to a report from the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone.
The road is now the main thoroughfare connecting the town centre to the airport and is nearing completion.

The four-lane section of the road is 18 metres wide on each side. The central island is two metres wide, and the two-lane road is 7.6 metres wide, including sidewalks.
Once completed, everyone in the area will have easier access to Bokeo International Airport. The road will also facilitate the operations of the economic zone in terms of investment, business and infrastructure as well as the development of the Bokeo Triangle Economic Zone.
Meanwhile, conversion of the small domestic airport in Bokeo to an international terminal is also nearing completion.
The first test flights took place in December, involving planes flown by Lao Airlines and Lao Skyway, with the upgraded airport expected to open this year.
The tests comprised take-offs and landings, and trial runs of the communication system and airport facilities.
The airport is situated just 5 kilometres from the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone and the upgrade to an international facility is expected to enhance the economic development of Bokeo province. The airport is being enlarged to meet the increasing need for air travel in the region, while Huayxai district is the capital of Bokeo province and shares a border with Thailand.
