PM’s Office receives 1.25 billion kip for Covid response
The Prime Minister’s Office has received 1.25 billion kip from five donors to support efforts to tackle the Covid-19 outbreak.
The donations were presented to the Office on Wednesday and handed over to Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, Prof. Dr Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune.

The Banque pour le Commerce Exterieur Lao Public (BCEL) gave 500 million kip; the 21st China-Vientiane Association donated 300 million kip; the China-Vientiane Foundation donated 200 million kip; Liaotou Chinese High School donated 200 million kip; and the Deposit Protection Institute donated 50 million kip.
Prof. Dr Kikeo thanked the donors for their willingness to help the government control the spread of Covid-19 and assured them the money would be used to the best advantage and for the intended purpose.
He gave an update on the current status of the Covid-19 pandemic globally and the situation in Laos, as well as lessons that had been learned.
The deputy prime minister outlined the work being done by all sectors of society to address the outbreak in Laos, especially the prevention and control measures set in motion by the government and the taskforce.
He called on everyone to join forces with the government and take the lead in implementing these measures.
Compliance with government guidelines requires responsibility on the part of individuals, families and communities at all levels to bring the outbreak under control, he said.
