Savannakhet introduces fines for Covid rule breakers

Savannakhet authorities will fine people who break the rules put in place to slow the Covid outbreak, while several provinces have imposed added restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.
Residents of Savannakhet province can expect to be given a warning for a first offence and fined 50,000 kip for a second offence if they go out without wearing a face mask and will also have their driving licence confiscated for the duration of the lockdown.

People who break the rules with regard to travel times will be fined 200,000 kip for a first offence and 500,000 kip for a repeat offence and will also have their driving licence confiscated while the lockdown is in force, according to the Savannakhet provincial Covid-19 taskforce.
Businesses that remain open in defiance of the rules will be fined 500,000 kip for a first offence and 3 to 5 million kip for a second offence. The business will be temporarily closed and the owner will undergo two days of training.
Savannakhet authorities have banned travel out of and into Kaysone Phomvihane city after locally-transmitted cases were identified in the area.
Travel in the city between the hours of 7pm and 5am is banned, except for hospital visits or in the event of an emergency such as a death, although people wishing to travel must get permission from the provincial Covid-19 taskforce. Shops and restaurants have also been closed.
In Bokeo, provincial authorities have placed Tonpheung district under lockdown until September 7 and have banned travel between villages in the district.
Meetings and workshops are banned, and beauty salons, karaoke bars, all entertainment venues, massage parlours, spas, sports activities and all traditional events are also banned, according to a Tonpheung district official.
Restaurants may remain open but must serve food on a takeaway basis only. Drivers of vehicles that transport goods must comply with the standard virus prevention measures and must have two Covid-19 vaccinations.
In Khammuan province, authorities have classified several villages in Hinboun district as red and yellow zones after the number of locally-transmitted Covid cases increased.
Huaykhao min, Hathxaikham and Muangkhai have been classified as red zones, with travel between these villages banned until September 13.
The transport of goods is also banned and all schools in the district will remain closed until further notice, according to the Khammuan provincial Covid-19 taskforce.
On Tuesday the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control announced 199 new cases of Covid-19 countrywide, bringing the total to 15,015.
Vientiane recorded four imported cases and 24 locally-transmitted cases, while Bokeo province recorded 11 locally-transmitted cases.
Oudomxay recorded one locally-transmitted case, while Luang Namtha recorded eight locally-transmitted cases.
Borikhamxay recorded two locally-transmitted cases and Khammuan recorded five imported cases and two locally-transmitted cases.
Saravan recorded 19 imported cases and 3 locally-transmitted cases, Savannakhet recorded 54 imported cases and 14 locally-transmitted cases, and Champassak recorded 52 imported cases and one locally-transmitted case.
