Turkey provides 467 million kip for Covid response
The government of Turkey has provided more than 467 million kip to the Lao government to bolster efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 and assist people staying in quarantine centres around the country, according to Ministry of Health
The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Laos, Mr Orhan Isik, last week gave the donation to Minister of Health, Dr Bounfeng Phoummalaysith.
Dr Bounfeng praised the Turkish government’s assistance, saying the money will be used to finance work at quarantine centres.
He gave an update on the activities in progress at the 86 quarantine centres, saying the ministry plans to help people accommodated at these facilities by providing them with food and other essentials.
At present, 3,216 people are housed in quarantine centres and another 1,682 people are staying in 59 government-designated hotels while they undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine period. As part of the government’s vaccination programme, inoculations are being offered at Vientiane’s main hospitals as well as at nine district hospitals and the Chinese Temple in Dongpalaep village, Chanthabouly district from Monday to Friday.
Vaccinations are also available at provincial and district hospitals and other locations assigned by provincial authorities.
Some 952 villages in 15 provinces have been classified as red zones, meaning that at least one Covid infection has been reported in the neighbourhood.
