Laos, Vietnam reaffirm special partnership following National Party Congress

The governments of Laos and Vietnam reaffirmed their special solidarity and strategic partnership when the two countries’ foreign ministers met in Vientiane on Thursday following the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane held talks with Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung at the office of the Party Central Committee.
Minister Le Hoai Trung was visiting as Special Envoy of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, to convey congratulations on the successful outcome of the LPRP congress.
The Vietnamese foreign minister congratulated the Lao Party and people on the successful organisation of the congress and praised the achievements made by the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in national protection and socio-economic development.
He also congratulated Minister Thongsavanh on his re-election to the 12th Central Committee of the LPRP.
Minister Thongsavanh expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s warm congratulations and reaffirmed that Laos’ achievements, both during its struggle for national liberation and in its current development process, have been supported by the international community, particularly the Party, State and people of brotherly Vietnam.
He also congratulated Vietnam on its achievements over the past 80 years, highlighting the country’s progress following the implementation of renovation policies over the past four decades, and expressed confidence in Vietnam’s continued success, especially ahead of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam later this month.
The two ministers agreed to continue to prioritise the preservation and strengthening of the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic partnership between the parties, states and peoples of Laos and Vietnam.
They stressed the importance of closely following up on agreements reached by the two Parties’ leaders and acting upon the decisions made at the 48th Laos-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee meeting, particularly in promoting economic ties and delivering tangible benefits to both nations.
The ministers also welcomed the outcomes of the 12th Political Consultation at the Ministerial Level held between the two foreign ministries in Vietnam last month, and agreed to work closely to fulfil the 2026-2030 cooperation agreement, including preparations for upcoming high-level discussions.
