Laos, Japan strengthen ties in human resource development
The Government of Japan is continuing efforts to help Laos develop a well-qualified workforce that is able to strengthen administrative capacity and establish institutions that benefit Laos’ development.
The Lao-Japan Human Resource Development Institute (LJI), in cooperation with the National University of Laos, held a seminar on Wednesday about the role of human resource development in national development and the expectation of Japan’s contribution to sharing experiences in this field.
The seminar would review the results of past endeavours in human resource development, especially through cooperation with Japan involving Lao and Japanese experts, President of the National University of Laos, Prof. Dr Dexanourath Seneduangdeth, said.
“This gathering is an opportunity to share perspectives by expressing our varying views on ways to broaden knowledge and develop more effective cooperation with Japan,” he said.
Human development lies at the heart of Laos’ progress, he added, serving as the foundation for economic growth, social stability, and cultural enrichment.
For Laos, investing in people is not only a priority but a necessity, to ensure sustainable development and prosperity, Prof. Dr Dexanourath said.
Japan has emerged as one of the most significant partners in this journey, offering multifaceted support that strengthens the country’s human capital, he added.
Through scholarships, cultural exchange programmes, and business training initiatives, Japan has opened doors for Lao students, professionals, and administrators to gain valuable knowledge and skills.
These opportunities not only enhance individual capacity but also contribute to Laos’ broader development.
The partnership between Laos and Japan reflects a shared vision: that empowering people is the most powerful way to drive a nation forward.
As Laos continues to invest in education, skills development, and cultural exchange, the contributions of Japan remain a cornerstone in shaping a brighter future for the Lao people.
Beyond education and training, Japan’s collaboration extends to strengthening administrative capacity.
By supporting institutional reforms and capacity-building programmes, Japan helps Laos improve governance and efficiency in public administration.
This ensures that human development efforts are effectively implemented and reach communities across the country.
Japanese Ambassador to Laos, Mr Koizumi Tsutomu, said that in recent years, the Lao-Japan Institute (LJI) in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has played a transformative role in strengthening human capital and business development in Laos.
Their joint efforts have resulted in the cultivation of a large number of quality businesses and highly skilled experts, contributing significantly to Laos’ socio-economic progress, he added.
Last year Laos and Japan celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations, after elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
