The country are preparing to elect members of the new National Assembly and Provincial People’s Councils on Sunday.


Only three days left before Election Day


With just three days remaining, voters across the country are preparing to elect members of the new National Assembly and Provincial People’s Councils on Sunday.
Members of the National Assembly represent their constituents when making decision on issues of national importance, while Provincial People’s Councils are responsible for decision-making concerning local issues.
All citizens are encouraged to exercise their right to vote with enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility, contributing to the nation’s continued development and democratic process.
A total of 4,764,384 citizens are eligible to vote and everyone is encouraged to turn out to make the elections a successful and meaningful event.
Vice President of the National Assembly and member of the National Election Committee, Prof. Dr Chaleurn Yiapaoher, has called on everyone to fulfil their patriotic duty and exercise their right to vote.
“Election preparations are becoming increasingly vibrant, as Lao people of all ethnic groups get ready to vote for their favourite candidates,” he said.
In both urban and rural areas, polling stations have been prepared with adequate facilities and equipment to ensure voting takes place smoothly.
Many people have expressed their intention to vote, acknowledging that it is an important aspect of citizenship, giving them the chance to select capable and ethical representatives to serve the nation, reflect the voice of the people, and contribute to the country’s development.
The National Election Committee has stated that the elections will be conducted in full accordance with the law, with a special emphasis on transparency and security.
A total of 243 candidates are competing for 175 seats in the next legislature of the National Assembly, while 1,041 candidates are competing for 745 seats in Provincial People’s Councils. Of these, 35 percent are women, with candidates’ ages ranging from 36 to 69.
Candidates come from diverse sectors, including the Party, state organisations, the Lao Front for National Development, veterans’ federations, mass organisations, security forces, educational institutions, and state and private enterprises.
Every vote is significant and voters should make sure their ballots are correctly marked to ensure they are valid.
