Luang Namtha prepares to receive 1.4 million tourists
Authorities in Luang Namtha province have set a target of attracting 1,441,568 tourists during this year in order to earn about US$45 million from the tourism sector, according to Socio-Economic News.
Under the strategy for 2026-2035 and the vision for the period till 2040, Luang Namtha province’s officials will support private companies that sign memorandums of understanding and make investments to develop tourist sites.
As part of the province’s policy for promoting and supporting tourism, officials have improved and modernised the information system, especially information on Google Maps about hotels and restaurants. They have also translated the history of 17 ethnic groups into English, issued advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Tik Tok, organised forest walks since 2025, and improved the Luang Namtha Valley Route.
Authorities will continue developing roads for tourists, organise forest walks and boat tours at the Nam Ha national protected forest, and support the organise of traditional festivals.
Besides, they will build the symbol of the silver pheasant at tourist sites across the province as this is a notable bird species found in the forests of Luang Namtha, particularly the Nam Ha national protected forest.
Provincial officials will also continue supporting the upgrading of business units and back human resource development to facilitate the growth of the tourism industry in a new era.
The province has 433 business units involved in the tourism sector with total investments of more than 504 billion kip.
The concerned officials are giving importance to checking the observance of service regulations, especially regulations to improve night markets in urban areas, and to ensuring that business units possess the requisite permits and certificates tguarantee service quality.
In 2025, Luang Namtha welcomed 1,290,192 tourists increased 2.86 percent compared in 2024.
Last year, there were 970,760 foreigner tourists entered through international border checkpoint and 136,410 foreigner tourists enters through Lao-China railway to visit Luang Namtha and helped the province got income more than US$40 million.
