Lao Telecom launches 5G service to lead Laos into a perfect digital lifestyle

Lao Telecommunications Public Company, widely known as Lao Telecom, has launched its 5G service with a special 5G Data Package to serve Lao Telecom’s customers, coinciding with the start of the five-day Lao Digital Week 2024.

The five-day event kicked off at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane on Wednesday and continues until January 14.
At the same event, the government also announced January 10 as National Digital Day, with Lao Telecom being the first telecoms operator in Laos to launch full 5G services to coincide with the declaration of National Digital Day and signify its importance for Laos’ development.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone also attended the launch of the 5G service alongside Minister of Technology and Communications Prof. Dr Boviengkham Vongdara, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mrs Suanesavanh Vignaket, the company’s Managing Director Mr Souphol Chanthavixay, deputy directors, and other invited guests.
At Lao Telecom’s booth, there were demonstrations of the use of 5G technology including Virtual Reality (VR), space exploration technology using drones, iFarm Solution, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, HR Platform, M-MoneyX, trial using 5G high speed internet and many other services that are on exhibition at the event.
Lao Telecom has already launched the 5G system in Vientiane at 28 locations, covering urban areas, important places, and various tourist attractions.
It plans to expand the system throughout the country to ensure customers are able to access 5G technology and experience a modernised technology that has seen rapid progress and delivered advanced technology in Asean.
5G technology is used in many areas of work, such as online business, E-commerce, AI, IoT, robotics in the fields of industry, agriculture and public health, which provides members of the public and users with a more convenient lifestyle through a faster and more secure network, which is also in line with the Party’s development guidelines.

It is also complies with state policy and the work of the Ministry of Education and Sports in the digitalisation of the Lao PDR, which includes three pillars, namely digital government, digital society, and digital economy.
Lao Telecom focuses on bringing new technologies to develop products and services that meet the needs of customers and society as a whole, as well as guaranteeing the quality of its services and preparing for telecommunication services.
In addition, it will support the national development strategy framework and contribute to the hosting of important meetings of the Lao government in 2024, such as the Asean Summit, Asean Tourism Forum and other important events in the years to come.
Lao Telecom is committed to the development of new technologies and innovations to serve Lao society and contribute to the creation and development of the nation to ensure prosperity and modernity in the digital age, as well as be side by side with the Lao public, in keeping with the company’s motto that says “Lao Telecom is the telecommunication of the Lao people for the Lao society”.
