Laos–Korea Agro Fair marks 30 years of friendship and farm sector cooperation
The year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Lao PDR.
To celebrate this milestone, a series of events will be held in Vientiane to showcase achievements in bilateral agricultural cooperation and to explore future opportunities for sustainable development.
The events are jointly organised by key partners including the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC), Korean NGOs, and 14 Lao villages from three provinces.
The main objective is to promote sustainable agriculture, strengthen community capacity, support income generation at the grassroots level, and boost trade by connecting Korean agri-food manufacturers with Lao distributors. It will also introduce high-quality Korean products to the Lao market through business matching and marketing activities.
Furum on agricultural cooperation
The celebration will begin on June 5 with a furum titled “Agricultural and Rural Development Cooperation between Korea and Laos: Current Status and Future Outlook”.
The furum will highlight best practices from both countries, reflect on ongoing collaboration, and explore future prospects for Korea–Laos partnership. A key highlight will be KOICA’s official handover of Policy Action Plans (PAPs)—developed jointly with relevant Lao ministries—to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. This marks an important step in policy alignment and cooperation.
Laos–Korea Agro Fair 2025 (June 6–7 at ITECC Exhibition Hall)
The Laos–Korea Agro Fair 2025, co-hosted by KOICA and KOTRA, will serve as a dynamic platform to highlight progress in rural development and promote Korean agri-food products through public–private partnerships.
KOICA will showcase local products developed in 14 Lao villages, facilitated by a KOICA project titled “Establishment of an Action Plan for Rural Income Generation in the Northern and Central Region of the Lao PDR (2021–2025).” This flagship development initiative is funded by KOICA and implemented by the Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS), in close collaboration with the Department of Rural Development (DRD) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, while KOTRA will host three major exhibition zones:
Showcase Zone: Featuring 24 Korean companies presenting more than 65 agricultural and food products.
K-Product Sales Promotion Zone: Involving 11 Lao importers showcasing popular Korean goods.
K-Food Zone: Presenting six Lao–Korean fusion dishes created by winners of the Korea–Laos Food Pairing Idea Contest. Visitors who spend over 200,000 kip will receive a 50,000 kip food voucher as part of a special promotion.
Voices from the organisers
KOICA Laos Country Director, Mr Sungsoo Oh, said “Marking the 30th anniversary of Korea–Lao diplomatic ties, this event is a meaningful opportunity to reflect on our agricultural and rural development cooperation—past, present, and future. It also lays the foundation for a long-term roadmap to advance agriculture and rural development in Laos.”
KOTRA Vientiane Director General, Mr Jungwe Park, added “This fair is more than a trade event—it celebrates the growing partnership between Korea and Laos. By showcasing Korean agri-food products and offering cultural experiences such as the fusion cooking show, we aim to foster mutual understanding and long-term cooperation in the food and agriculture sectors.”
A lasting legacy
The Laos–Korea Agro Fair 2025 is a symbol of enduring friendship and a shared vision for inclusive and sustainable development. As the fair concludes, it leaves behind not just fond memories, but a legacy of cooperation and goodwill—benefiting both nations through lasting agricultural progress and deeper economic ties.
