Embassy of the Republic of Korea wins Korean National Property Architecture Award
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea held a ceremony on May 29 to unveil a commemorative plaque to celebrate the Embassy’s winning the “10th Korean National Property Architecture Award”.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Laos Jung Yung-soo unveiled the plaque at the Embassy.
The ceremony was attended by the Director General of the Diplomatic Service Bureau of the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Kanya Khammoungkhoun; Vice President of SNK, Chong Dae-seong; and Project Manager of SM Samhwan, Lee Ki-yeok, who built the Embassy.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea has offered the architecture award since 2015 to help improve the architectural quality of Korean public buildings.
The award is given to buildings selected from among 32 public buildings recently constructed both domestically and internationally with funding from the government of the Republic of Korea. Among the 32 candidate buildings, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Laos was selected, winning the top prize.
Construction of the Embassy took around 3 years starting in 2020 after a land lease contract was signed in 2017 and was completed in February 2023.
The exterior of the Embassy building harmonises the traditional image of Korea with the local window style of Laos to create a modern and sophisticated image. The courtyard inside the building is decorated with a flower wall to add Korean colours, and was praised for its practical value in connecting the courtyard and lobby so the space could be opened up for a diplomatic event.
Above all, the Embassy was pleased to receive this award in the meaningful year of 2025, which marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Laos.
