Govt convenes May session to review key achievements, plan ahead

The government cabinet convened for its regular monthly meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office on May 29 to summarise the main activities undertaken in May and outline a plan of action for June.
The two-day meeting is chaired by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and attended by high-ranking officials from ministries and provinces.
Cabinet members discussed and reported on numerous issues such as road repairs, the state budget plan, implementation of the monetary plan over the first six months of 2025, and the plan for the last six months of 2025.
Participants were briefed on the issues the government will raise at the upcoming 9th ordinary session of the National Assembly and heard a report by the Prime Minister on the implementation of the National Socio-economic Development Plan.
The meeting also reported on the success of the Visit Laos Year tourism promotion programme in 2024 and future plans, as well as the enforcement of laws across the country, and the implementation of policies, legislation, and mechanisms for the development of hydroelectric power.
Attendees shared ideas for inclusion in the draft of the state financial development strategy to 2035 and vision to 2040, and a draft decree on management and direct lending, on-lending, and lending guarantees.
They also discussed a draft decree titled One District, One Product, a draft decree on support for startup businesses, a draft decree on policies concerning the National Sports Committee, and a draft decree on tourist attractions, according to a report from the Prime Minister’s Office.
