Laos, China cooperate to develop cross-border digital infrastructure
Laos and China will jointly develop a Trusted Cross-Border Digital Infrastructure to facilitate international transactions and advance digital transformation in both countries.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed recently in Yunnan, China, between a representative of the Ministry of Technology and Communications of Laos, Ms Sirilak Xaiyabounsou, and a representative of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics of China, Mr Yan Ming.
The agreement underscores the commitment of the two parties to strengthening regional digital connectivity by creating a reliable and secure digital framework. This initiative is expected to boost cross-border economic innovation, promote academic cooperation, and support Laos’ transition towards a digital economy.
Both sides will jointly explore and develop a reliable cross-border digital infrastructure system between Laos and China.
In addition, the two countries will increase cross-border digital cooperation, create learning opportunities and promote technical exchanges, and jointly develop an e-commerce platform to support cross-border trade between Laos and neighbouring countries and jointly study the feasibility of establishing an E-Commerce Cross-Border Platform Development Zone.
The two sides will also jointly research and develop an E-Government Trusted Data Space Platform to enhance the efficiency of the digital government administration system, and research emerging technologies, such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence to support cross-border trade and digital system management.
They will build capacity and share knowledge by providing long-term and short-term scholarships to support technical, academic and professional development in areas of mutual interest, according to Lao National Radio.
