Laos, China sign seven documents to bolster development financing for key sectors
Seven agreements signed during President Thongloun Sisoulith’s recent visit to China are expected to enhance development financing and cooperation in key sectors such as green industry, education, healthcare, and human resource development.
The agreements and cooperation documents were inked by the Lao Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Laos-China Cooperation Committee, Mr Santiphab Phomvihane, on behalf of the Lao government, with China’s National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).
The signing took place during the state visit of the Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of Laos, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith, to China during June 2-6.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by President Thongloun Sisoulith and his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping.
According to a report published on the Ministry of Finance’s Facebook page this week, the seven agreements were among 32 cooperation documents concluded during the visit and are considered a key outcome of bilateral discussions aimed at advancing Laos’ socio-economic development priorities.
The cooperation documents focus on green industrial development, poverty alleviation, the upgrading of educational infrastructure, human resource development, and capacity-building for medical personnel.
These initiatives are expected to help mobilise financial and technical resources to support sustainable economic growth, improve public services and strengthen human capital in Laos.
As Chairman of the Laos-China Cooperation Committee, Mr Santiphab played a leading role in promoting development cooperation projects that align with the government’s national development agenda and long-term modernisation goals.
These agreements establish an important framework for expanding development financing cooperation between the two countries while enhancing the implementation of strategic projects in priority sectors.
The signing of the agreements also reflects the continued deepening of the Laos-China Community with a Shared Future and the growing effectiveness of bilateral cooperation mechanisms.
The newly signed agreements and documents will provide a stronger foundation for implementing the Laos-China strategic cooperation work plan, helping to deliver practical benefits to the peoples of both countries while further strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership.
