Senior ministry officials pay tribute to former President of Timor-Leste
Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs paid tribute to the late former President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Francisco Guterres Lu Olo, at a memorial service held at the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Vientiane on Thursday, following the passing of the former Timorese President on June 21.
According to a news release from the ministry, the Lao delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Maythong Thammavongsa, who attended the ceremony and signed the book of condolence on behalf of the government.
In his message of condolence, Mr Maythong expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the former president and extended heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Timor-Leste.
“On behalf of the government and people of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, as well as in my personal capacity, I wish to extend my most heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the government and people of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, and to share in the grief of the family, relatives and friends of the deceased on this great loss,” the message read.
The memorial service in Vientiane served to highlight the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Timor-Leste, while reflecting the Lao government’s respect for the late former president’s contributions to the development of his country and to regional cooperation.
