K-Lab Vientiane hosts K-LAB DIGITAL MAKER 2025 to empower Laos’ youth through digital innovation
K-Lab Vientiane successfully hosted the K-LAB DIGITAL MAKER 2025 event on June 28–29, 2025, at the Lao-Japan Budo Center in Vientiane. The event provided an exciting and hands-on platform for Laos’ youth to explore digital technologies and innovation through two flagship activities: Robot Competition and the Make-a-thon.
Designed to nurture digital creativity, problem-solving skills, and practical ICT knowledge, the event encouraged young participants to tackle real-world challenges and develop solutions that can benefit their communities.
On June 28, the spotlight was on the Robot Competition, featuring 10 high school teams with 30 participants from across Laos. Students showcased their engineering and teamwork skills by designing and building manual robots to complete complex tasks such as overcoming obstacles and sorting resources in a simulated disaster response scenario. The competition highlighted the power of collaboration, technical ingenuity, and creative thinking.
Building on that momentum, June 29 featured the Make-a-thon, where 5 university finalist teams selected from an initial pool of 10 competed to develop ICT-based prototypes targeting pressing challenges in Urban Development, Agriculture, Environmental Sustainability, Disaster Management, and Transportation. The teams had spent months refining their ideas and working with mentors to enhance the feasibility and relevance of their solutions.
In his closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Soulyphan KANNITA, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the National University of Laos, expressed deep admiration for the talent and innovation displayed. “These two programs together represent what K-LAB stands for: empowering young people with digital skills and opportunities to become changemakers in their communities,” he said.
Operated with the support of Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Promotion Agency (NIPA), K-LAB Vientiane will continue its mission to strengthen digital capacity and foster innovation leadership among the youth of Laos.
