Lao Red Cross, Swiss Red Cross partner to enhance humanitarian operations
To bolster its long-term sustainability and operational efficiency, the Lao Red Cross (LRC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Swiss Red Cross (SRC) on the ‘Evolve LRC Volunteer and Finance Management System’ initiative, which will strengthen the organisation’s financial and volunteer management systems through 2027.

The agreement was signed on July 3 by the Director of the LRC Cabinet Office, Mr Hongchanh Chanthavong, and SRC Country Representative to Laos, Ms Binita Poudel.
Following an assessment of the Lao Red Cross’s organisational capacity, the Swiss Red Cross launched the initiative to address specific gaps in financial and volunteer management. The project aims to strengthen management systems, enhance staff capacity, and develop robust procedures to ensure more effective service delivery.
The partnership aligns with the Lao Red Cross Strategic Goal for 2030, which envisions the organisation becoming a strong, sustainable, and highly efficient humanitarian entity.
To build public trust and ensure the optimal use of resources, the project aims to strengthen financial management through transparent, accountable, and modernised systems.
Furthermore, the project supports the goals of the Lao Red Cross by improving volunteer management, specifically through the development of tools to effectively recruit, manage, support, and retain volunteers across the country.
The MoU reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the Lao Red Cross, enabling it to deliver accountable, people-centred humanitarian services that benefit communities in need.
