The Mokdom viewpoint offers sweeping panoramic views.

Visitors to Vangvieng district in Vientiane province can now enjoy more scenic attractions with the pilot opening of the Mokdom viewpoint and Kae Yeuang waterfall to the general public.
These sites enable visitors to experience panoramic views over the area’s rugged landscape and the refreshment of cool running water, and lie just 7 kilometres from the town centre.
Development of the site, which spans more than 400 hectares of pristine forest and limestone outcrops, began in November 2025 and opened on a pilot basis in March.
Perched at an elevation of 1,470 metres above sea level, the Mokdom viewpoint offers sweeping views of Vangvieng’s iconic limestone mountains, lush forests, and the surrounding valley.
The higher altitude provides visitors with refreshingly cool temperatures, creating an ideal escape from the warmer conditions in the town below.
Speaking to the media, the President of Thepthida Tourism Development Co., Ltd., Mr Henphet Xayyavong, said the project was designed not only to showcase the area’s outstanding natural beauty but also to promote sustainable tourism while creating employment and generating income for local communities.
“The development aims to balance tourism growth with environmental conservation, ensuring that visitors can enjoy nature while preserving it for future generations,” he said.
During the pilot phase, visitors can drive to the summit in approximately eight minutes, hike to the viewpoint in around 40 minutes, explore forest trails, and make use of campsites.
Developers plan to introduce 16 activities that will appeal to visitors, making the area suitable for adventure seekers, nature enthusiasts and families alike.
The site is expected to draw both Lao and foreign visitors seeking authentic experiences amid stunning scenery, while contributing to sustainable local economic development.
