Teachers strengthen counselling, AI skills at Kasy Cultural Education Centre

A three-day Teacher Capacity Building Workshop for high school teachers in Kasy district was held at the Kasy Cultural Education Centre from August 3-5 as part of Phase 2 of the Kasy District Secondary School Opportunities Improvement Project for Minority Youth in Laos, supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Organised by Global Vision, the workshop brought together 60 teachers from five high schools for training in student counselling and information and communications technology (ICT) skills.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Global Vision Laos Country Director Mr Jongin Kim highlighted the importance of investing in teachers.
“Building schools and providing educational materials are important, but the most important investment is in teachers,” he said.
“When teachers combine compassion with new knowledge and technology, they can provide students with safer, more engaging, and higher-quality learning experiences.”

Deputy Head of the Kasy District Education and Sports Office, Mr Bounma Phengxay, described the workshop as an important opportunity for teachers to strengthen their professional knowledge and practical skills.
He highlighted the role of ICT and digital technology in improving teaching quality and encouraged participants to apply what they learned in their classrooms.
He also expressed his appreciation to Global Vision for its long-term commitment to education development in Kasy district.
On the first day, teachers received training in student counselling techniques and the principles of safeguarding and child protection to help them better identify and respond to students’ emotional and psychological needs.
The sessions focused on practical counselling skills, including active listening and the role of teachers as trusted adults, helping educators create a safe and supportive learning environment. The training aims to promote students’ emotional well-being, healthy development, and positive school adjustment.
On the second and third days, participants explored practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.
Through hands-on sessions, teachers learned how to use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Brisk Teaching to design lesson plans, create differentiated learning activities, develop assessments, and improve classroom efficiency.
The training also emphasised responsible AI use, including fact-checking, data privacy and ethical considerations.
Reflecting on the workshop, one teacher said “Before attending this workshop, I mainly focused on completing lesson content. Now I realise that understanding students’ emotional needs and becoming a trusted adult are equally important. The AI training also showed me how technology can reduce lesson preparation time, allowing me to create more engaging lessons and spend more time interacting with my students. I believe these new skills will help create a more supportive classroom where every student can learn with confidence.”
The workshop concluded successfully on August 5.
Global Vision hopes the knowledge and practical skills gained through the training will help improve the quality of education in Kasy district by equipping teachers with modern teaching methods and stronger student support skills.
Since 2021, with support from KOICA, Global Vision has strengthened the district’s learning environment through educational facility construction, teacher support, extracurricular activities, career exploration programmes, and parent education initiatives.
The organisation will continue its support through 2026 to help build a more inclusive and sustainable education system.
