Federation ties up with Lao Brewery Company for badminton development

The Lao Badminton Federation has announced plans to strengthen the development of badminton across the country with support from its long-standing partnership with the Lao Brewery Company.
The plans were announced at a news conference in Vientiane on Thursday that was attended by the Lao Badminton Federation President, Dr Bounleua Sinxayvoravong, a representative of the Lao Brewery Company Mr Chansamone Phongchantha, Federation officials, representatives of relevant ministries, organisations and badminton clubs, coaches and athletes.
The Secretary of the Federation, Dr Xaybandith Rasphone, said the partnership has played an important role in promoting and developing badminton in Laos for 25 years.
Dr Xaybandith said the Federation continues working with Brewery Company as the sponsorship is more than financial assistance and about “building the future together”. He said the partnership contributes to raising the standard of badminton in Laos in a systematic and sustainable manner.
For 2026, the Lao Brewery Company is providing sponsorship and support, in the form of cash and products, worth 766 million kip. The funding will be used to support badminton competitions at various provincial venues throughout the year, with athletes accumulating points towards the national ranking through their participation.
The Federation has established a systematic national database covering 26 officially registered badminton clubs and more than 500 athletes.
The development of this database demonstrates the Federation’s growing capacity in administration and management, while providing a stronger foundation for the development of badminton at the national level.
Looking ahead, the Federation plans to implement a five-year development programme centred on two major strategic projects.
The first is the Beerlao Badminton Super Series, with five tournaments planned each year. The competitions will rotate among provinces with suitable facilities, including Khammuan, Savannakhet, Champasak, Luang Prabang, Xayabouly provinces and Vientiane.
The initiative aims to expand the national athlete base, provide young players with opportunities to accumulate ranking points, and further promote badminton as a sport for people across the country.
The second initiative is the Beerlao International Series, an international-level tournament scheduled to begin in 2027 and take place annually in November.
The Federation plans to seek recognition for the tournament within the official competition calendars of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Asia.
Dr Xaybandith called on the company to consider providing additional support for the international series as the Federation works to raise the profile of Lao badminton regionally and internationally.
As part of the celebrations marking 25 years of cooperation between the Federation and the Lao Brewery Company, the two organisations will jointly stage the 25th Beerlao Badminton Championship 2026.
The tournament is scheduled to be held at the Lao-Thai Gymnasium Indoor Stadium in Vientiane during August 27-30. There will be a total of 21 events for national ranking points. The junior categories will include U13, U15, U17 and U19, and there will be four events for amateur players.
Experienced local officials will be appointed to oversee the matches, with the Federation planning to train new officials as part of its efforts to develop a stronger pool of technical personnel.
Dr Xaybandith invited badminton clubs from across Laos, together with coaches and athletes of all age groups, to participate in the championship and contribute to the development of the sport.
He also pledged that the Federation will use financial and other forms of assistance it receives transparently and effectively, with the aim of developing athletes, strengthening national teams, nurturing a new generation of players and helping Lao athletes achieve greater recognition at home and abroad.
The Federation remains open to cooperation with additional sponsors interested in supporting the development of badminton, provided mutually acceptable arrangements can be reached.
The partnership between the Badminton Federation and the Lao Brewery Company will remain strong, sustainable and continue to grow in the years ahead.
