Chao Anouvong Stadium pre-completion event kicks off

“Inclusive Fashion Show” celebrates diversity and the vision for an inclusive stadium in Laos.

The Ministry of Education and Sports and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) jointly organised the “Chao Anouvong Stadium Pre-completion Kickoff Event: Inclusive Fashion Show” on August 25.
The event was held to showcase the vision of Chao Anouvong Stadium, which is currently under construction with support from JICA’s Grant Aid Project, and is expected to be completed in October 2026, as an inclusive public space where people with and without disabilities can participate, connect, and enjoy activities together.
Approximately 200 guests, including Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Kingmano Phommahaxay, Japanese Ambassador to Laos Koizumi Tsutomu, JICA Senior Vice President Mitsui Yuko, JICA Laos Office Chief Representative Kobayashi Miyako, government officials, private companies, sports federations, NGOs, and members of the fashion community, attended the event and shared the vision of an inclusive society.

Fashion as a bridge for inclusion
The Inclusive Fashion Show was organised in cooperation with Lao Fashion Week, one of the most recognised fashion events organisers in Laos.
Fashion is a form of self-expression that belongs to everyone, regardless of age, gender, background, or ability.
During the event, professional models and persons with disabilities walked together on the runway wearing creations from fashion brands including SAYA, Her Works, VANA, Siimee and young Lao designers.
Prior to the event, designers and models with disabilities participated in an inclusive fashion workshop, where they created designs together and shared experiences.
For some designers, this was their first opportunity to interact with persons with disabilities. Through collaboration, communication, and creativity, they developed mutual understanding and meaningful connections.
The event highlighted the active participation and creativity of persons with disabilities, emphasising their role as contributors and leaders in building an inclusive society.
A new role for Chao Anouvong Stadium
Originally built in the 1950s in the centre of Vientiane, Chao Anouvong Stadium has long served as a venue for various activities, including football, rugby, athletics, para-athletics, and public events.
Through JICA’s Grant Aid Project, the stadium is currently being renovated with improved accessibility, safety features, and facilities to welcome a wider range of users.
However, an inclusive stadium is not only about physical accessibility. It is also about creating an environment where inclusive activities continue to grow and where people from diverse backgrounds can connect and create new opportunities together.
The Inclusive Fashion Show represented an important step towards demonstrating the potential of Chao Anouvong Stadium as not only a sports facility but also a place for culture, creativity, and community interaction.
Addressing the event, Ms Mitsui said “JICA hopes that Chao Anouvong Stadium will become a lasting symbol of our shared vision of a society where no one is left behind.”

Mr Kingmano said “The Ministry of Education and Sports is also looking forward to hosting not only athletic games, but more inclusive events at Chao Anouvong Stadium in the coming future.”
The event also featured a band consisting of musicians with visual impairments and an inclusive dance performance by deaf students.
Towards a stadium for all
The renovation of Chao Anouvong Stadium is scheduled to be completed in October 2026.
Following its completion, the stadium is expected to serve not only as a venue for sports competitions but also as a place for cultural events, community activities, and interactions among diverse people.
The Ministry of Education and Sports and JICA will continue working together with partners, communities, and stakeholders to develop a sustainable and truly inclusive stadium — a stadium for all.
