The forum included remarks by the Deputy Director of the Department of Information, Culture and Tourism in Luang Prabang province, Mr Vongdavone Vongxayarath, representing the host province, and presentations by the Assistant Deputy for International Tourism Marketing I, Deputy for Tourism Marketing, Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr Dedi Ahmad Kurnia, and Coordinator of Marketing and International Relations, Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) National Board, Ms AA. Ayu Dewi Darmayanti.
The speakers highlighted Indonesia’s diverse tourism destinations, tourism marketing strategies, trade opportunities and investment prospects, while encouraging greater connectivity, business partnerships and people-to-people exchanges between Indonesia and Laos.
The forum provided participants with valuable insights into potential areas of cooperation and opportunities to strengthen Indonesia–Laos economic and tourism linkages.
The forum also introduced two major international events to be held in Indonesia in October 2026, namely Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) and the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE), encouraging Lao businesses and stakeholders to participate and explore opportunities with Indonesian partners.
The economic promotion programme was complemented by the Wonderful Indonesia Cultural Night, held on August 28-29 at the Luang Prabang Night Market. The event offered visitors an opportunity to experience Indonesia’s rich cultural diversity through traditional dances, martial arts and interactive activities.
A highlight of the Cultural Night was the performance of the Pendet Dance and Sekar Jagat Dance from Bali, presented by the Lao Army Art Troupe. The performances showcased the beauty and elegance of Balinese traditional dance while demonstrating the meaningful cultural connections between Indonesia and Laos.
The programme also featured an energetic demonstration by national pencak silat martial artists from the Lao Pencak Silat Federation, highlighting the growing appreciation of Indonesia’s traditional martial art in Laos and its potential to further strengthen people-to-people ties through sport and cultural links.
Adding a distinctive Indonesian Lao community dimension, the Nawung Sekar Dance from Yogyakarta was performed by teachers and students of the Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing (BIPA) programme in Vientiane.
Their participation reflected the role of language and education in fostering greater understanding and friendship between the peoples of Indonesia and Laos.
The diverse performances, involving Lao artists, athletes and participants of the Indonesian language programme, underscored the spirit of mutual appreciation and cultural exchange at the heart of Indonesia–Laos relations.
“Wonderful Indonesia 2026 in Luang Prabang demonstrates that our bilateral relationship is not only about government-to-government cooperation, but also about connecting our people, businesses and communities,” said Achmad Dahlan, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Indonesia in Vientiane.
“Through tourism, trade, investment and culture, we hope to create more opportunities for Indonesians and Lao people to discover, connect and work together.”
The successful implementation of the programme underscored the Embassy’s commitment to advancing Indonesia–Laos cooperation across multiple sectors, while bringing Indonesia closer to the Lao people through meaningful economic and cultural engagement.
