Lao leaders extend condolences over death of Norway’s King Harald V

President Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavan Phomvihane have expressed their deepest condolences to the Royal Family and people of Norway following the death of His Majesty King Harald V on August 28.
In separate messages of condolence dated August 29, the Lao leaders expressed their profound sadness over the passing of the Norwegian monarch and conveyed their heartfelt sympathies to the Royal Family and the Norwegian people during this time of mourning.
In his message to His Majesty King Haakon VIII, President Thongloun Sisoulith described the late King Harald V as a deeply respected Head of State of the Norwegian people and a devoted father to the new king.
President Thongloun Sisoulith said the passing of King Harald V represented an immense loss for the Royal Family and the people of Norway. He noted that the late monarch had dedicated his life and wisdom to serving the Norwegian people and contributing to the prosperity of the nation throughout his reign of more than 35 years.
On behalf of the Lao people and on his own behalf, President Thongloun Sisoulith extended his heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to King Haakon VIII and, through him, to all members of the Royal Family and the people of Norway.
Prime Minister Sonexay, in his message to King Haakon VIII, also expressed his deep sadness over the demise of King Harald V and conveyed condolences on behalf of the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and himself to the new king, the Royal Family and the people of Norway.
Foreign Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane, in his message to Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of King Harald V and conveyed heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and himself to the members of the Royal Family and the Norwegian people.
The three Lao leaders also said they hoped that the soul of His Majesty King Harald V would rest in peace.
