The KOLAO Group, one of Laos’ leading conglomerates, has announced a strategic partnership with Dareun Co., Ltd., the operator of the internationally recognised Korean food franchise “Dookki Tteokbokki”, to introduce the popular brand to Laos and Cambodia.
A signing ceremony and press conference on the venture took place on Wednesday, 10th September 2025, at the Kolao Tower in Vientiane, attended by senior executives of relevant companies and invited guests.

The Chief Executive Officer of Grandview Property under the KOLAO Group, Mr Jakkapong Wangtaphun, said the partnership was a major step forward in the group’s ongoing efforts to diversify its business portfolio.
“For over 26 years, the KOLAO Group has expanded from the automotive sector into property, finance, retail, and food and beverages. Today, we have successfully introduced world-class brands to Laos,” he said.
“Partnering with Dareun to bring Dookki Tteokbokki is another important milestone. Dookki is already a highly trusted and well-recognised brand in Korea, and we believe it is the perfect fit for Laos, where Korean food culture is vibrant and widely embraced, the economy is growing, and consumers are seeking high-quality, affordable dining experiences.”

Mr Jakkapong also said the idea of bringing ‘Dookki Tteokbokki’ to Laos was rooted in its popularity among young people in Korea and the continuous growth of the brand had a bright future.
“Dookki Tteokbokki is a light rice cake served with spicy Korean sauces. We plan to launch it in Laos with a buffet-style concept, where customers can enjoy a 90-minute dining experience,” he said.
The first branch will be operational at the Mega Mall in Vientiane early next year, he added.
The President of Dareun Co., Ltd., Mr Nam Seung-woo, also expressed his optimism about the joint venture.
“We are truly delighted to partner with the KOLAO Group through our brand Dookki, which is now expanding into the global market. We are confident that this collaboration will be a great success,” he said.
“As a Korean proverb says, ‘If you want to go far, go together’. With the KOLAO Group, we believe Dookki will go further and become stronger and more resilient in the future.”
This partnership reflects the shared commitment of both companies to raising the standard of the food and beverage sector in the region, while delivering innovative and sustainable dining experiences to consumers.
Dookki, which means “two meals” in Korean, is widely known for its all-you-can-eat tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) buffet concept, and is expected to attract a strong following among Korean cuisine lovers in Laos and Cambodia.
