Swiss Red Cross provides vehicles, equipment for Lao Red Cross

Emergency response and life-saving blood transfusion services across Laos have received a major boost with the donation of vehicles and equipment worth over US$75,000 and 948 million kip from the Swiss Red Cross to the Lao Red Cross.
The donated items were handed over on September 25 at the National Blood Institute in Vientiane.
The event was attended by Party Central Committee member, LRC Party Executive Secretary and President of the Lao Red Cross, Mr Khamlavanh Chanthalavanh; Vice President of the Lao Red Cross in charge of blood services, Dr Chanthala Suksakhone; and Country Representative of the Swiss Red Cross in Laos, Mrs Binita Poudel, along with representatives from related sectors.

The assistance directly supports two key initiatives: Scaling Up to Advance the LRC National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS) project and the School and Community Action for Emergency Readiness (SAFER) project.
Under the NBTS project, two 12-seater Toyota Hiace vans valued at US$75,000 were given to the National Blood Institute to bolster voluntary blood donation and secure a safe and steady national blood supply.
For the SAFER project, 100 pieces of equipment valued at 948,819,000 kip were provided to improve field mobility and operational readiness.
These included 10 Honda Wave 110 motorcycles, 70 Samsung Galaxy A17 5G mobile phones, six HP OmniBook X Flip 14 laptops, five Brother DCP-T830DW printers, one Epson EB-FH54 projector, and office furniture.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mrs Poudel said the donatedd items would strengthen the operational capacity, field coordination, and emergency response speed of the Lao Red Cross across all administrative levels, ensuring better protection and relief for vulnerable communities during crises.
In response, Mr Khamlavanh expressed profound gratitude to the Swiss Red Cross for its long-standing partnership, noting that beyond physical assets, SRC support extends to technical training, quality management, and strategic development. He gave his assurance that all of the donated items would be carefully used and maintained to serve their humanitarian objectives.
