Govt mulls top priorities, practical solutions at monthly meeting

The government is focusing on national priorities, including socio-economic development, poverty reduction, digital transformation and more effective public administration, as it reviews its work and sets tasks for the coming month.
Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith has urged government members and other officials to examine key issues thoroughly and provide practical, focused comments to help resolve problems and improve the implementation of government policies.
He made the remarks at the government’s monthly meeting for October, which convened at the Office of the Prime Minister on October 22. The two-day meeting is reviewing the government’s work in October and discussing priorities for November.
Deputy Prime Ministers, government members and representatives of relevant sectors attended in person, while heads and representatives of local administrative authorities joined via video link.
Before the formal agenda began, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Khamphanh Phommathat presented a basket of flowers on behalf of government members to congratulate Mr Saleumxay on his recent election as Prime Minister.
Mr Saleumxay thanked government members and local authorities for their cooperation and support, expressing his hope that they would continue working together to fulfil the political duties assigned by the Party, the State and the people, in line with targets set for each period.
The meeting takes place as the Party, State and multi-ethnic Lao people implement the Resolution adopted by the 12th Party Congress and the 10th five-year National Socio-Economic Development Plan, while preparing to advance the National Agenda on rural development and poverty reduction.
It follows the close of the 2nd ordinary session of the 10th National Assembly, which adopted government reports on the 2026 national socio-economic development plan, state budget and monetary plan, as well as directions for supporting plans in 2027.
During the two-day meeting, the government will consider six agenda items covering seven topics. These include a review of priority tasks carried out in October and the work plan for November, as well as use of the Road Fund in 2026 and planned use in 2027.
The government will also consider a draft resolution on dividing management responsibilities between central and local authorities in finance, investment, land management and other fields, alongside a draft resolution aimed at accelerating the development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.
Other agenda items include consideration of a draft strategy to promote and manage the use of electric and alternative-energy vehicles; a draft decree on policies governing the import of goods and vehicles for members of Lao diplomatic missions stationed abroad; and a draft decree concerning the Environment and Forest Protection Fund. Prime Minister Saleumxay urged participants to express their views directly and concisely, focusing on the practical circumstances of each issue to ensure that discussions help to resolve problems and ensure the success of the government’s work.
