President to attend UN cybercrime convention in Hanoi
President Thongloun Sisoulith will attend the signing of the United Nations Convention on Countering Cybercrime in Hanoi from October 24-26 as a Guest of Honour, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event, co-hosted by the United Nations and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, will be chaired by Vietnamese President Luong Cuong and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security General Vilay Lakhamfong will represent the Lao government in signing the convention, which reflects Laos’ strong commitment to global efforts to prevent and tackle cybercrime.
The Convention on Countering Cybercrime was developed through international consultations that began in 2021, with Laos actively contributing to the discussions.
The agreement aims to strengthen international cooperation in addressing cyber threats that pose risks to national security, economic growth and social stability.
President Thongloun’s participation underscores Laos’ proactive engagement in promoting digital safety and its close partnership with Vietnam and the United Nations in building a secure and trustworthy cyberspace.
