Project Manager of the Leading University Project for International Cooperation at Inje University in the Republic of Korea, Prof. Jina Oh, has been appointed Honorary Professor at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) in Laos in recognition of her contributions to the development of healthcare education and the training of nursing professionals in the country.
Prof. Oh was named an honorary professor in celebration of Lao Teachers’ Day on October 7. On October 13, she visited the University of Health Sciences in Vientiane, where she received the certificate of appointment from the university’s President, Prof. Dr Mayfong Mayxay.
She was awarded the appointment for her leadership in remodelling Laos’ nursing curriculum and reforming its healthcare system through the Leading University Project for International Cooperation, which runs from April 2020 to March 2027.
Over the past seven years, the project team has pursued multifaceted cooperation to enhance the quality and sustainable development of healthcare in Laos.
Their efforts include establishing an advanced nursing curriculum tailored to local needs, building teaching and learning capacities for nursing faculty, and holding workshops to improve the quality of the national nursing licensing examination.
Presenting Prof. Oh with a certificate naming her as an Honorary Professor, Prof. Dr Mayfong Mayxay expressed his deep gratitude, saying, “Thanks to Prof. Oh’s dedicated efforts, nursing education in Laos has taken a major leap forward.”
“Now that you have become an honorary professor at our university, we hope you will continue to work with us for a long time towards the future of Lao healthcare and the collaboration between our two institutions,” he added.
Prof. Oh said “This appointment is not just a personal honour, but the fruit of healthcare education cooperation between Korea and Laos. I will do my utmost during the remaining project period through March 2027 to further solidify the foundation for self-reliance in Lao nursing education and complete a sustainable model of cooperation.”
