Media personnel beef up skills with AI training
Media professionals are gaining new skills in artificial intelligence (AI)-powered content creation through a five-day training programme that opened in Vientiane on October 30.
The programme aims to improve efficiency in the media industry, strengthen digital capabilities, and encourage innovation.
The Lancang-Mekong Audiovisual “AI Learning” Programme, held as part of the 2026 Lancang-Mekong Audiovisual Week, brings together 30 participants from Lao government agencies, media organisations, business associations and the independent media and content creator sector.
The training session is taking place in Vientiane, where Chinese experts are providing practical instruction on emerging AI technologies and their applications in audiovisual production.
Combining lectures, hands-on exercises and case discussions, the programme covers AI agents, AI image generation, AI video production and other applications of AI-generated content.
It teaches media personnel practical skills that will help them produce digital content more efficiently, explore new creative approaches and adapt to the rapidly changing media landscape.
The opening ceremony was attended by the officials from the two sides.
Deputy Director of the Yunnan Provincial Radio and Television Bureau, Ms Huang Min said the programme was an important step under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation framework and served to strengthen the growing ties between China and Laos.
Artificial intelligence is transforming the production and distribution of audiovisual content, creating new opportunities for innovation and development in the media industry, she added.
Ms Huang hoped that participants would master practical AI-generated content creation skills and apply their knowledge in their professional work.
Director General of Lao National Television, Dr Vanlaty Khamvanvongsa thanked the Chinese side for providing Lao media personnel with opportunities to improve their skills, noting that AI is increasingly important in improving production efficiency and innovation.
The programme forms part of broader efforts to deepen China-Laos cooperation through knowledge-sharing, technical training and talent development, while supporting the digital transformation of the regional audiovisual industry.
