ASEAN and media representatives launch the “China Up Close” media tour.


Open, Connected, Homeland: China-ASEAN media partners unite to build shared future

Nanning, Guangxi, China – The 2025 "ASEAN Partners" Media Cooperation Week kicked off here on Monday under the theme "Open, Connected, Homeland".
Co-hosted by the China Media Group (CMG) and the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the event aims to forge a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future through strengthened media collaboration.
The gathering brings together over 200 participants, including government officials, diplomats stationed in China, media professionals, experts, and scholars from China and ASEAN countries.  
In-depth dialogue and exchanges will explore pathways for win-win cooperation, and pool media strength to build a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.  

Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the CMG and General Editor of CGTN, Fan Yun, announced CMG's commitment to setting sail with "Openness" by exploring innovative technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and cloud computing with ASEAN partners.
This aims to ensure that the benefits of media cooperation reach all peoples in the region.
Guangxi is focusing on becoming an intelligent communication hub. Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Party Committee and Head of the Publicity Department, Chen Yijun, said Guangxi is ready to work with ASEAN partners to create a "new highland for innovative development in AI+media", deepening cooperation in areas like intelligent content generation and cross-cultural communication to benefit all parties.
The China Media Group will also connect through "Humanities", planning more people-to-people linksthat "connect hearts, are down-to-earth, and full of warmth", highlighting the commitment to cultural and emotional resonance alongside technological advancement.
Speaking via video link, Member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee Secretariat and Minister of the Central Committee's Propaganda and Training Commission, Khamphanh Pheuyavong, said the event not only embodies the spirit of cooperation but also reaffirms the long-standing and profound bonds of friendship between the peoples of China and ASEAN.  
He said that in this rapidly changing digital era, the media no longer consists solely of news reporters but is a vital bridge connecting cultures and enhancing understanding.
China and ASEAN are physically connected by mountains, rivers and geographical proximity, whilethe media has a responsibility to build bridges of friendship, telling constructive stories of cooperation and development, and working together to create a stable, strong, and sustainable "common homeland of shared destiny".
Laos is willing to deepen media cooperation with China and other ASEAN member states, believing that this Cooperation Week is an important platform for "inspiring new thinking and pioneering new paths",elevating media cooperation to new heights.  
Mainstream media journalists from ASEAN countries will join reporters from the China Media Group and Guangxi media organisations on in-depth reporting tours in Guangxi, presenting the robust pulse of China's high-quality development and the fruitful results of its opening-up and cooperation from multiple angles and in a multi-dimensional manner.  
A series of the latest cooperation achievements between the CMG, relevant units in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and related ASEAN media were released during the event.  
Four new cooperation projects were also launched. These are the ASEAN Media Partners “China Up Close Tour”; the Artificial Intelligence-Empowered Nanning city image promotion project; the “Travel Guangxi and Thailand through Micro-Dramas” culturaltourism campaign; and the IP Licensing ceremony of the China Media Group.
