Vice President pays respects to Thailand’s Queen Mother

Vice President Pany Yathotou represented Laos in attending a wreath-laying ceremony for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother in Bangkok on November 5.
She attended the event on behalf of President Thongloun Sisoulith, the Lao government and people, to honour the late Queen Mother, who passed away on October 24 at the age of 93.
The ceremony took place at the Royal Hall of Dusit Maha Prasat, where Her Majesty’s remains lie in state. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, representing His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Rama X, welcomed the Lao delegation.
Her Majesty Queen Sirikit was born on August 12, 1932, and married His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, Rama IX, on April 28, 1950. They had four children – Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya, King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X), Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and Princess Chulabhorn Walailak.
Throughout her life, the Queen Mother accompanied King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great on his royal duties in Thailand and abroad.
She attended the opening of the first Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge linking Vientiane and Nong Khai during a state visit to Laos in 1994, at the invitation of then President Nouhak Phoumsavanh.
She was widely respected for her devotion to social welfare, helping to improve the lives of the Thai people and supporting development projects across the country. Her efforts also played an important role in building and strengthening the bonds of friendship between Laos and Thailand.
Vice President Pany conveyed deep condolences from the Lao government and people to the Royal Family and the Thai Government and people. Her visit paid tribute to the Queen Mother’s lifelong contributions to goodwill and friendship between Laos and Thailand.
