President briefed on outcomes of 14th High-Level Round Table meeting
Development partners and international organisations have pledged continued cooperation in implementing Laos’s development agenda, strengthening debt management, and supporting the country’s smooth transition from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
The pledge was included in a report on the outcomes of the 14th High-Level Round Table Meeting that was presented when a high-level delegation met President Thongloun Sisoulith yesterday.
The delegation called on the President to report on the outcomes of the Round Table Meeting, which was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Vice Chair of the National Steering Committee for the Round Table Process, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith.
During the courtesy call by the delegation, the Minister of Finance, Santiphab Phomvihane, briefed the President on the key results of the Round Table Meeting, while noting four major achievements.
The meeting unanimously adopted and signed the Third Vientiane Declaration for 2026–2035.
Delegates reviewed progress made under the 9th National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2020–2025) and presented the draft 10th NSEDP (2026–2030).
The Round Table Meeting reached strong consensus on the need to intensify implementation through clearer and more detailed measures to ensure progress towards the plan’s six targets.
The Minister further reported on progress towards Laos’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status, along with implementation of the Doha Programme of Action for LDCs.
He underlined the importance of establishing a sound financing strategy, strengthening debt management, and ensuring adequate budget allocation for essential sectors such as education and public health.
The meeting also heard a summary of discussions from the High-Level Dialogue Forum held under the theme “Post LDC Graduation, Unlocking New Development Ambitions – Growth, Jobs and Technology”.
Participants exchanged views on technology access and knowledge transfer, the green transition, the rising role of Artificial Intelligence, and improved public administration and financial management.
President Thongloun praised the successful outcomes of the meeting and expressed appreciation for the continued support of development partners.
He emphasised the need to translate the results of the 14th High-Level Round Table Meeting into concrete actions that deliver practical benefits to the Lao people.
