Brief biography of Vietnamese General Secretary

General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Comrade To Lam, was born on July 10, 1957, in Nghia Trụ Commune, Van Giang District, Hung Yen Province.
His academic titles are Professor and Doctor of Law, with a high-level diploma in political theory. He joined the Party on August 22, 1981.
The following is a brief biography of his career to date:
1974-1979: Student at the People’s Security University (now the People’s Security Academy).
1979-2006: Employed at the General Department of Security of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Promoted from deputy of the division to head of the division, and from deputy director to director of the department.
2006 to 2009: Deputy Director-General of the General Department of Security, Ministry of Public Security; promoted to rank of Major General in April 2007.
2009-August 2010: Director-General of the General Department of Security; promoted to rank of Lieutenant General in July 2010.
August 2010-January 2016: Deputy Minister of Public Security and member of the 11th-tenure Party Central Committee; promoted to rank of Senior Lieutenant General in September 2014.
January 2016-April 2016: Member of the 12th-tenure Politburo and Deputy Minister of Public Security.
April 2016-January 2024: Member of the 12th-tenure Politburo, Minister of Public Security, deputy of the 14th - 15th tenure of the National Assembly; promoted to rank of General in January 2019.
On May 22, 2024, Comrade To Lam was elected as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. On August 3, 2024, he was elected as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and continues to hold this position.
