Lao Brewery Company, PR Partner Rantau+ win gold at the Global Sustainability and Purpose Awards 2025 in UK for Best Technological Innovation

Lao Brewery Company (LBC), part of the Carlsberg Group, and its long-term PR partner Rantau+, won Gold in the Best Technological Innovation category at the Sustainability and Purpose Awards 2025 held in London on November 21 for their campaign, “Aligning Lao Pride with Global Purpose: A Journey of Sustainable Transformation”.
Aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the Awards honour leading sustainability and purpose-driven campaigns around the world, shining a spotlight on organisations delivering measurable sustainability and social outcomes.
Winners gain an independent, transparent platform to showcase ESG performance to stakeholders, global peers and the wider community. Recent winners at the Awards include Dulux, Transport for London, Chelsea FC, Lenovo, Avon, UNDP, Dubai Electricity and Bath & Body Works.
This year’s win recognises LBC’s breakthrough work in redefining sustainable brewing for emerging markets. Through its “Celebrating the Source” communications platform, LBC has embedded environmental restoration, regenerative agriculture and community upliftment into its business model — transforming sustainability from a corporate programme into a national movement.
“This recognition underscores how a Lao homegrown brand can drive meaningful environmental and social impact. For Carlsberg and LBC, sustainability is not a project — it is part of our identity,” said Managing Director of Lao Brewery Co., Ltd., Mr Henrik Juel Andersen.
“For more than 50 years, we have been brewing for a nation, and today that legacy continues through our commitment to a greener future. We are grateful to Rantau+ for helping us tell this story with clarity and authenticity, and for amplifying Laos’ voice on the global stage.”
Setting a New Standard for Sustainable Brewing
LBC’s award-winning initiatives demonstrate how innovation can deliver measurable climate and community gains:
•          Renewable Biomass Energy: Over 80 percent of steam energy at the Vientiane brewery now comes from renewable biomass, cutting 17,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually — achieving decarbonisation targets five years ahead of Carlsberg’s global 2030 goal.
•          Sustainable Rice Farming: Expanded to 900 hectares, reducing chemical fertilisers by 70 percent, improving farmers’ yields and incomes, restoring biodiversity, and strengthening long-term soil health.
•          Water & Resource Stewardship: Continuous improvements in water efficiency, waste repurposing and a 97 percent glass bottle collection rate through a robust circular packaging model.
•          Community Impact: Empowering farming communities, supporting women farmers (50 percent participation), enabling higher-skilled jobs and contributing to national socio-economic development.
Judges praised the effort as “an impressive project driving transformation at scale”.
A National Brand Driving Global Purpose
As LBC’s communications partner since 2018, Rantau+ has been shaping the company’s sustainability narrative through strategic storytelling, media engagement and regional collaborations. The communications campaigns have resonated strongly with the public, strengthening LBC’s identity as a brewer deeply rooted in Lao culture and committed to the nation’s green transition.
“This win goes beyond recognising LBC’s environmental leadership – it affirms Laos’ ability to spearhead sustainable innovation in an emerging market landscape. We are proud to have helped bring this story to life, translating LBC’s on-ground impact into a narrative that resonates globally,” commented Chief Strategy Consultant, Rantau+, Julia Nicholas.
Founded in 1973, Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. is the leading brewery in Laos and home to the iconic Beerlao. With a strong focus on quality, innovation, and sustainability, LBC offers a diverse portfolio of beverages and is committed to delivering excellence to Lao consumers. A proud subsidiary of the Carlsberg Group, LBC is a key driver of economic growth and community development in Laos.
