Party Secretary General welcomes high-ranking Chinese delegation for 50th anniversary celebrations

Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Lao President, Thongloun Sisoulith, on Monday received a courtesy call from a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Wang Huning, at the Presidential Office.
Mr Wang, who is also Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a high-level delegation from the Party and government of China on an official goodwill visit to Laos from December 1-3, taking place alongside celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao PDR.
President Thongloun welcomed the delegation’s visit, saying it was of great significance in strengthening the longstanding friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive strategic partnership between Laos and China.

He noted that the visit reflects the spirit of the “four good” principles, of being good neighbours, friends, comrades and partners, and would advance the Laos-China community of a shared future, leading to deeper and more practical levels of cooperation.
The President highlighted the outcomes of Mr Wang’s meetings with the Prime Minister and the President of the Lao Front for National Development (LFND), noting the continued progress in cooperation between the LFND and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
He also underlined the strategic importance of the Laos-China Railway, which has delivered substantial socio-economic benefits and improved regional connectivity.
President Thongloun expressed sincere gratitude to the Party, government, and people of China for their longstanding support, ranging from the struggle for national liberation to current infrastructure and development efforts.
He reaffirmed Laos’ consistent adherence to the One-China policy, stressing that Taiwan is an inseparable part of the People’s Republic of China.
He further conveyed appreciation for the cooperation initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping and for the congratulatory message sent on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao PDR.
For his part, the Chairman of the CPPCC, as the leader of the visiting Chinese delegation, thanked the Lao Party and government for their warm hospitality.
He delivered a congratulatory message from President Xi Jinping and applauded the progress achieved by the Lao people under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, particularly in maintaining stability and advancing national development.
He also extended best wishes for the success of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, scheduled for early 2026.
In addition, Mr Wang briefed President Thongloun on the outcomes of his talks with Lao leaders, expressing satisfaction with the progress made since the meeting between the two countries’ top leaders in September this year.
He said the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two Parties continues to guide the growth of Laos-China relations, making cooperation increasingly effective, practical, and enduring.
